Flood and Erosion Control Project
(a) Scope
v Reclamation of coastal areas and protection of farm lands from erosion.
v It involves carrying out flood and erosion studies and designs, reclamation, dredging, canalization and the construction of drainages in identified locations in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States.
(b) Achievement
v Construction of erosion control structures at Opobo, Peterside and Degema had earlier been completed.
v Construction of drainage structures are currently on-going in 20 locations.
v Studies and designs for the protection of Kaiama foreshores completed.
v Canalization of Abalamabie Creek completed
v Reclamation of 2 ha of land and dredging of the creek at Ogu (Phase I) was completed in 2010. The area was sandfilled with 70,000m3 of sand.
v Construction of Phase II of Ogu erosion project is 90% completed
v Construction of drainage structures at Agbalabiriyai is 70% completed.
